What’s interesting about this clip to me is that Senator Cornyn gives him multiple opportunities to apologize, and it seems like he comes close at a couple points. But he just doesn’t. His position seems to be, “It wasn’t my fault, so I don’t apologize.”

Federal authorities arrested a local doctor’s son, who they say tricked his pregnant girlfriend into taking an abortion pill, killing their unborn child.

This is a big deal though.
You know why?
Because in this case, the fetus was only 6 weeks old.

6 weeks old.

Not viable outside the womb, which is generally the standard for granting personhood and considering feticide to be murder.

So the question is then: when is a person a person? In this case, the FBI is granting personhood to the aborted fetus because it was wanted.
Does the desire to have a baby make a person a person? Is it reaching a certain developmental stage? It’s all so arbitrary. If the government is going to draw lines, they need to draw some solid lines.

You know I once heard a funny comparison to this.

If I have a bag of chips sitting on my desk, they will be a bag of chips whether I want to eat them or not. Not wanting that bag of chips doesn’t mean that they suddenly become a blob of cells (which, technically, we are ALL blobs of cells, just blobs that continuously grow bigger and get more complex) it will always be a bag of chips.

The desire or lack of desire to have something does not change what that something is.

And yes, this case is important. I agree.

I wonder if the person who made that "Smart people don't vote for Republicans" post is regretting it yet.

n a scientific survey of 1,168 adults conducted during September and October of last year, respondents were asked not only multiple-choice questions, but also queries using maps, photographs and symbols. Among other subjects, participants identified international leaders, cabinet members, Supreme Court justices, nations on a world map, the current unemployment and poverty rates and war casualty totals.

In a 2010 Pew survey, Republicans outperformed Democrats on 10 of 12 questions, with one tie and Democrats outperforming Republicans on just 1 of the 12. In the latest survey, however, Republicans outperformed Democrats on every single one of 19 questions.

Amusingly, the Pew report attempted to soften the stark partisan knowledge disparity:

“Republicans generally outperformed Democrats on the current quiz. On 13 of the 19 questions, Republicans score significantly higher than Democrats and there are no questions on which Democrats did better than Republicans. In past knowledge quizzes, partisan differences have been more muted, though Republicans often have scored somewhat higher than Democrats.”

“Generally outperformed?” “Somewhat higher?” That’s a curiously charitable way to describe the surveys, which went from previous blowouts to a complete shutout in the latest edition.

Those Pew results are confirmed by some surprising other sources. According to a New York Timesheadline dated April 14, 2010, “Poll Finds Tea Party Backers Wealthier and More Educated.” Shattering widespread myths, that survey revealed that Tea Party supporters were more likely to possess a college degree than their counterparts (23% to 15%), and also more likely to have completed post-graduate studies (14% to 10%). Tea Partiers were also more likely to have completed “some college” by a 33% to 28% margin, and substantially less likely to have not completed high school than non-supporters (3% versus 12%), or to possess only a high school degree (26% versus 35%)…

Hundreds of residents of Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem, were astounded Monday morning to see an oversized Nazi flag flying next to a mosque in the Arab town of Beit Omar.

The residents notified the IDF.

The girl’s attacker brought her to Planned Parenthood, where she lied about how she was impregnated and subsequently had an abortion.

It was August 2012 when the preteen told clinic workers that her 14-year-old boyfriend was the baby’s father — a lie that was apparently told to protect the adult male who had perpetrated the crime.

It wasn’t until six weeks later that she told authorities what really happened. As a result, in April, Luis Gonztalez-Jose, 31, pleaded guilty to second-degree rape of a child.
